Recap of May's Edition of "Learn to Connect the Dots" for a Better Performance Horse Clinic
The following was sent to us by Melinda Gonyaw who was our SUPER volunteer. She made ALL the arrangements for the clinic riders & horses, clinician Cindy, suggesting Deer Run as the venue, lunch for all clinic participants and generally was the “go-to” person! Hooray for Melinda!!
The club’s recent clinic “Learn to Connect the Dots” for a better performance horse, with Cindy McDevitt, held on Saturday, May 17, 2008 was a success!
The day started out overcast then warmed up to 90 degrees with a breeze. Fortunately, the recent fire activity that threatened the area earlier in the week had subsided and the air was free of smoke and ash! There was plenty of bottled water and Gatorade on hand, and buckets of water for the horses, to help all stay hydrated.
Participants in this clinic were: Cameo Werner & “Tonto”, Jill Dobbs & “Willow”, Kay Byrnes & “Beau”, Jackie Nelson & “Trooper”, Tim Burkett & “BJ”, Kelly Burkett & “Buddy” and Michele Leone & “Miss T”. It was nice to see a few Arabians and Half-Arabians and also Spacecoast members as participants. Club members who audited were Joni McClure, Holly Pollock and Patricia Bean. There were also plenty of auditors from Deer Run who came to observe throughout the day.
The clinic started with a short classroom session where Cindy explained the objective of this clinic, which included learning how to connect the rein to a specific body part, and to have your horse perform with “energy”. Cindy rotated throughout the group, explaining and demonstrating how to connect the rein to move individual body parts independently. Assisting Cindy with the horses and riders was Jeff, one of her long time students.
The group broke for lunch around 1:00 pm and everyone had a nice break (including the horses”). Cindy answered questions and reviewed the morning session, then discussed what would transpire in the afternoon. After lunch the clinic resumed, and all showed improvement in their performance. Even at the end of a long hot day, the participants were still enthusiastic and wanting more! Everyone went home knowing that they had accomplished a lot in just one day. They had received a small taste of where they could go with these training methods.
The club would like to thank Deer Run for the use of their facility. The recently revamped footing in the arena was wonderful! The parking area with shade was large enough to maneuver trucks and trailers. Plus, it was a treat to have the screened building with picnic tables. This facility proved to be a great place to have events!
Many thanks to Linda Reilly, Patty Bean, Cindy’s husband, Lynn and Jeff Vice.
Also, a very special THANK YOU to Cindy McDevitt for donating the proceeds and her time to the charities we support. She is an EXCELLENT clinician!

SAHC BE A SPONSOR, GET A SPONSOR FUND DRIVE
The Spacecoast Arabian Horse Club (SAHC) needs your help!
The Spacecoast Arabian Horse Club's 2006-2007 fund drive is underway. Please consider a donation to support your local equestrian club's community activities which include it's youth educational fund, open horse shows, dressage schooling competitions, educational clinics and charity donations.
The Club's major fundraising venue, Wickham Park, has been under reconstruction for over two years. The facility has not been available to SAHC, or other local equestrian organizations, to hold fundraising activities and shows. Thus, the SAHC funds have been depleted and the club is in serious need of outside contributors to help make its first annual holiday open show and winter dressage show schooling series a success! Remember, without the SAHC's community activities and involvement, and without your help, the competitions and opportunities provided to the community's youth and membership will be greatly reduced.
Please consider one of the following sponsorship levels and the resulting benefit as a Spacecoast Arabian Horse Club Donor and Sponsor. Or, a giving level of your choice will be greatly appreciated! After considering your sponsorship level, please contact one other person who could become a sponsor or one other business who could contribute. Download a sponsorship form and sponsorship levels sheet (both are PDF files). Please print as many as you need!

But you need to hurry, deadline for Open Show Sponsorship is December 8th, 2006 and the deadline for Dressage Class/Series Sponsorship is January 10th, 2007.
